Welcome to the Mapmakers Townhouse, where fascinating Edinburgh history and imposing architecture meets modern luxury, space, light and attention to detail.

Lovingly renovated by the owner who has “poured his heart in to it and has thought of every single detail to make our experience a fantastic one”.

For history buffs, this townhouse’s credentials are second to none, for it once formed part of the impressive premises of the famous Bartholomew Mapmakers firm, situated in Duncan Street from 1911 – 1995. Skilled craftsmen and women worked within the light filled and spacious building to produce world famous maps, maintaining Bartholomew’s reputation as one of Scotland's most influential map making firms. The imposing building has a Palladian façade c1780, taken stone by stone from the former Morningside family home Falcon Hall.

With excellent restaurants, shops and traditional Edinburgh pubs favoured by locals, within easy walking distance. Step out of the townhouse doors and you'll truly feel like a local.
Go for a walk up Arthur's Seat and round Holyrood Park, visit the iconic Summerhall arts complex, have coffee in Hugo's cafe near Meadows park or entertain the family at the recently redeveloped Commonwealth swimming pool and sport centre. The atmospheric Royal Mile is about 20 minutes walk from the apartment and the city centre is within walking distance or a short bus or taxi ride away. For great days out drive out of town to visit the many Midlothian attractions such as Roslyn Chapel or the beaches of East Lothian.

Interior layout Set over three floors, this interesting Edwardian property has been refurbished with attention to details and sense of style.

-First Floor. The Engravers' Room-
The open-plan living room is a gorgeous, bright space, with tall Georgian-style windows. The dining table seats up to 6 guests and is a lovely central space for dining in.
This is the perfect place to relax or entertain yourself with a flat screen HDTV, DVD/CD player, board games and plenty of books provided.
The kitchen features a window pass-through to the living room, making it a bright and spacious room.
The kitchen is equipped with oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, kettle, microwave and gas hob, all of a high standard.
The stylish double bedroom is a beautifully designed compact space.
With a bespoke luxurious mattress and headboard of carefully selected tweeds, this room is a prefect combination of comfort and luxury-living.
The large built-in wardrobe provides spacious room to store comfortably all your luggage, clothes and golf bags.
The bathroom features a shower over the bath, heated mirror, WC and sink.

-Second Floor. Maps Repository-
The two bedrooms on the top floor display a gorgeous mixture of traditional Scottish design with modern flare.
The headboards have been created exclusively for the house - in rich, lavish tartans, to compliment the colour schemes in each room.
Fascinating antler lamps highlight the true Scottish theme in an effortless, sophisticated way.
The sky light windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the property and come with black-out-blinds for a great night's sleep.
All mattresses in the property are luxury 5* hotel standard and all of the bedding and furnishings are of the highest quality.
A third bathroom features a large walk in shower, WC and sink and benefits from under-floor heating for an added luxurious feel.

Exterior The Palladian portico with its impressive columns, dates 1780 and was moved from Falcon Hall in Morningside piece by piece.

The Mapmakers Townhouse is a unique place to stay in, ideal for a relaxing and memorable experience.

Sleeping arrangements Two super-king bedrooms which can also be set up as twins if required and one standard double bed.

Limited mobility access This property is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties due to the number of stairs in the property.

The Edinburgh Address require names and ages of all guests, as well as addresses and ID. We will require the lead guest to sign copy of our terms and conditions. We reserve the right to vet any booking. This apartment is not suitable for stag parties, hen parties or young single sex groups or parties. One member of the booking party must be over 25 years old. There is a strictly non-smoking policy. A damage deposit of £250.00 is required one week before arrival and will be fully refunded pending no damages one week after your departure.




Getting there from the Waverley Railway Station
Exit station onto Princes Street, turn left along Princes Street and second left onto the Mound. Take the No. 42 bus. The journey is about 10 minutes. Look out for the National Library of Scotland's Map Library at the junction of Grange Rd, Salisbury place and Causewayside. Prepare to get off bus, on passing The Old Bell Pub. Walk down Duncan street to the junction with South Gray Street. The Property is on the on the corner of South Gray Street and Duncan Street. Turn right and the property is access through a metal gate on the other side of the road.

Getting there from the Airport
Take the Express Shuttle bus from outside the UK arrivals hall into the city centre (buses approximately every 10 minutes, fare around £4.50). Exit bus at Waverley Bridge, just off Princes Street. Follow instructions as above.

Executive car transfer:
The Edinburgh Address can arrange an executive car pick up for you from the airport to your apartment - or other locations on request. We can also arrange day trips and private drivers. Please contact us on 0131 261 8646 and let us know you would like to arrange a car and to get a quote. Transfers are usually around £57 each journey. Please let us know as soon as possible so we have the best possible chance of booking the journey on your behalf, as cars aren't always available at last minute.

Getting there by Car
If travelling from the North, continue on the A90 signposted for Edinburgh. Take the exit onto the A90, go through two roundabouts. Turn left at A90/Manor Place where you turn left again after 0.3 miles onto A8/W Maitland Street. After half a mile, turn right at Lothian Road and continue to Tollcross. Continue on the A700 along Melville Drive. At the end turn right onto Causewayside and look out for the National Library of Scotland's Map Library at the junction of Grange Rd, Salisbury place and Causewayside. Turn left at The Old Bell pub down Duncan street, at the next junction turn right and the property has a private parking space on the left behind a private gate

If travelling from the South continue to drive on the A1 and take the exit towards Craigmillar/Newcraighall at the roundabout take the first exit onto A6095/Newcraighall Road and continue to Cameron Toll Shopping Centre. Take the third exit onto Lady Road, continue along and then turn right onto Mayfield Road. The apartment is on your right after Duncan Street a couple of doors up from the Old Bell Pub.

Parking instructions
The property has one free parking space included.
Over the weekend on street Free Parking is usually available just around the corner from the apartment. During the week there is Free on street parking on residential streets a 10 minute walk away. Otherwise parking is metered 8:30am to 5:30pm.

Outstanding property. We have just spent a wonderful Christmas in Bartholomew Townhouse. The house was absolutely perfect with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Beds and linen were 5 star quality and the kitchen had EVERYTHING we needed to cook and entertain on Christmas Day. The owners has thought of everything. Hope to stay again in the future..
