We are so excited that The Lion King is coming to the Edinburgh Playhouse this year.

It’s a show that I’ve heard amazing things about and have never got the chance to see.  I’m so glad that the production is coming to Edinburgh.

We are very lucky to have an amazing property just minutes’ walk away from the Playhouse.

Our guests have described The Stylish City Break @ Gayfield Square as "A perfect Apartment for a city break in Edinburgh" and we could not agree more!

From architectural features such as the large skylight, curved door and living room wall to the light and airy white fitted kitchen; the apartment will not fail to delight. Inspired design touches include the solid wood cupboards in the bathrooms and living room which blend seamlessly into the rooms and the designer hand blown glass lighting. Adding splashes of colour and glamour throughout the apartment the Adrian Sankay Glass designs are truly beautiful and leave you in no doubt this is a unique and exceptional apartment.

All rooms lead off the spacious main hall way; there is a large living room with single sofabed, piano and shuttered windows. A master ensuite (with shower) King bedroom, a second bedroom with zip and links, a bathroom (with bath and shower over bath) and large dining kitchen. Pleasant cityscape views from the windows combine Edinburgh architecture and leafy trees.

The location is truly perfect for those who want a city centre break; only minutes’ walk from not only the Playhouse theatre but Princes street and super local bars, delis and boutiques of Broughton Street and the legendary Valvona and Crolla on Elm Row.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to do listen to this.

This is Rachael doing the "Address to a Haggis" for a Burns Night she hosted a few years ago in Canada while on a ski season.

We love Burn’s night; we love the tradition and the poems, the songs, the music and the food.

It seems futile to try to write about the bard when what describes him and his work best are his own words.

So what I suggest is to pour a wee nip of Whisky and enjoy these songs.

My love is like a Red, Red Rose

The Lea Rig

Ae Fond Kiss

A Man's a Man for a' That

*Warning* If you’re from Scotland but are out of the country you might get a bit misty eyed!

For more information about Robert Burns and Burns Night this is a great site.

We'd love to know how you are celebrating Burns night, tweet and facebook us your stories and pictures, we'd be thrilled to see them!

The forecast for Edinburgh tomorrow is snow and freezing conditions so it feels really strange to be thinking about the summer!

Although we love winter in Edinburgh it is nice to start feeling dreamy about longer days and summer sun.

There is a buzz in the air about this year’s Edinburgh Festival. The program won’t be announced for a good few months yet but we’ve had lots of booking for August already!

If you are planning to come to stay in Edinburgh for the Festival it’s a good idea to get your accommodation sorted as soon as you can. We have various apartments that sleep 2 all the way up to houses that sleep 10.

Book now to secure your dream apartment, then all you’ll have to worry about are which shows to see!

The 6 Nations are nearly upon us and we are very excited! I’ve grown up loving rugby but our Canadian girl Erin was a little unsure about it all so we’ve put together a 6 Nations survival guide for her and if you want, you!

Introducing The Edinburgh Address Guide to the 2013 RBS 6 Nations at Murrayfield.

There’s an App for that…

It’s pretty much true for everything these days and if you want to keep up with all the 6 nations action you can download this free app from the itunes store. Or if you feel the need to brush up on the rules of rugby you can download the IRB Laws of Rugby app here.

Work out how to get to Murrayfield beforehand! If you can avoid it try not to drive. Traffic can be a nightmare, take it from someone who got caught in stand still traffic for an hour! Get directions to Murrayfield here.

On game day make sure you dress warmly, the roof is open to the elements so it is likely to get cold, bring a waterproof jacket in case it rains but never an umbrella. Wear comfy shoes -no high heels - as you’ll be standing and cheering (hopefully) or at least doing a Mexican wave!

Avoid cold toes with these

altGet these ones here.

I still have the strip I got for my 16th birthday which I wear to most games but you can check out all the merchandise in the official shop here or alternatively you could go down this route.

altBuy here.

If you’re all wrapped up you’ll need some way to show your support for your team. I’d recommend face paint rather than the more extreme cheek tattoo. These look good,

altGet these ones here or pick some up at a costume shop.

and they are for age 3 to adult so we should be able to cover all bases!

If you’re keen to try to get on the big screen you can buy Scotland flags and really stupid Loch Ness Monster and Hey You Jimmy hats at the gates of the stadium.

Most people know the national anthem of their country but if you just going along for the experience you should learn Flower of Scotland, hearing it sung in a stadium is pretty epic. The first verse is usually played with the bagpipes but the second verse is sung acapella by 60,000 fired up Scots. I get goose bumps every time, it's pretty special. Here’s a clip of the team and crowd singing it.

This is also played a lot, as is this it will be stuck in your head for days!

Traditionally, at half time the teams stayed out on the pitch and had a quick snack of orange segments. Now the teams retire to their dressing rooms to talk second half strategy. I’m not sure if orange segments are still consumed. If you make it to half time you deserve some refreshment too, it’s hard work being a fan. I recommend cookies

To be washed down with a swig from the thirst aid helmet…

altBuy here

Ok so I’m joking about this one but you can buy beer and other refreshments in the stadium.

Finally, if you’re new to the game and are not quite sure what’s going on here are some helpful phrases that will make you sound like you know what you’re talking about.

“Pass the ball!”

“Bring him down!”

“Great kick/horrible kick” (you’ll need to use you own judgment but can usually tell from the crowd.)

“Need the ball/Where’s the ball/Too slow/we need quicker ball, quicker ball!” Opposing teams try to slow the ball down to break momentum so you can pretty much guarantee you’ll be using one of these fairly regularly.

“Stop giving away stupid penalties!” Pretty much all penalties are stupid so you’re safe with this one plus if it’s at all close to the posts you can add “and it’s kickable” (don’t forget to include a disgusted sneer with this.)

“Go on Son, run RUN!” To be applied when someone makes a brake for it. Or, “chase him!” when the other team make a break for it.

Finally, it is said that Rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen and the fans should behave like gentlemen (and women) too. No booing the other team when they score or are about to kick. That’s just bad sportsmanship plus it’s Mean.

The atmosphere is electric but the fans are always well behaved and whatever the outcome you’re sure to see supporters of both sides having a laugh at the pub afterwards. It’s a great day out for the whole family so make sure to bring the kids.

Scotland are playing at home in Murrayfield on the 9th of February, 24th February and the 9th of March. You can buy tickets here and see the full fixtures list here.

Now all there is to do is pray to the Rugby Gods that Scotland do well!

We still have some flats available over the Rugby weekends, contact us for availability and prices and check out our facebook page for special offers!

It’s been a busy time here at the Edinburgh Address and we have lots of exciting updates coming soon but first we thought we’d share what we’ve been up to the past few weekends.

Erin, our resident Canadian took some time to explore more of Scotland, particularly Edinburgh and its surrounding areas. She even ventured across the bridge and headed up to St Andrews for the day. She didn’t play any golf but she take in all the sights of the famous town.

Erin set out for Cramond Island but was thwarted by some very aggressive swans and a high tide so she retreated to the nearest pub instead.

She also visited Edinburgh Castle for the first time and is now recommending it to all our guests and reminds them to head to the ramparts to watch the 1 o’clock gun when it's fired. She then jetted of to Poland for a week! Lucky thing.

She loved it, although not as much as Edinburgh and we are so pleased to have her back!

Rachael, our snow bunny spent the last weekend in October at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival an event she goes to every year.

She says it marks the start of the countdown to the winter season gets her excited to strap on her skis. The films and lectures are always really inspiring and even if you’re not an extreme sports junkie it’s a great event. Fun fact: at the after party the guest speaker – leading British climber Leo Houlding stole her beer, she says this makes them best friends, Leo was unavailable for comment however.

The last few weekends she also went to see Scotland take on the almighty All-Blacks and South Africa at Murrayfield. Our whole office is #backingblue!

Our yummy mummy Siobhan took a break from the kids and went to see the Celtic match at Celtic Park in Glasgow, she painted her nails green and white for the occasion and is still bouncing off the ceiling at the result, 2-1 against Barcelona.

She’s also been lucky enough to nab some free family tickets from Historic Scotland to visit Edinburgh Castle in celebration of St Andrew’s Day. The kids will be cultured whether they like it or not!

Siobhan also accompanied Anna to the World Travel Market in London last week where they met lovely people, learned lots and we've now got some great new ideas!

Anna has also been busy searching out the best place to get our festive cheer on, mulled wine all the way! We’ve finally decided that we are going to have our Christmas night out at Our Dynamic Earth, because a Christmas without Dinosaurs is no Christmas at all! I wonder if they will let us sledge down that giant ice cube they have?

Now that we’re less than 6 weeks from Christmas we’re running around like busy little elves trying to make sure that our guests have the best festive break ever. Stay tuned for some special festive deals!
